Location:Bishops Lydeard Railway Station - free car park
This event is in the past.
Please note that this ride is on a Sunday.
The ride's 23 miles but add on Taunton to Bishops Lydeard return and it'll be about 40. It's quite hilly in places especially just after we leave the coast
The Train part of the ride will be on the West Somerset Railway's 10:20 departure from Bishops Lydeard to Minehead. Please be there in plenty of time - it won't wait for you. There will be accommodation on the train for 18 bikes, so that's the limit on our numbers - strictly first come first served. The fare for bike + rider will be £13.00 payable in advance to Tim or on the day. Bank details: Sort Code 20-85-26 Account Number 40009288 Ref. <your name> for online payment in advance. Cheques payable to T. R. Seddon.
Now the strain part... We should arrive in Minehead at 11.43, and from there will head for Blue Anchor for lunch at the Driftwood café. No bookings but they know we're coming and we hope we're in their garden. The fish and chips is excellent. We'll use the new cycle path from Dunster Beach not quite to Blue Anchor. Not quite because there's a bit missing, and we'll have to get off and push bikes along a pebbled footpath. This bit isn't very suitable for recumbent bikes.
After lunch we'll ride back to Bishops Lydeard station, with motive power from muscles rather than a steam engine. (Much lower CO2 emissions)
Transport to and from Bishops Lydeard: As Bishops Lydeard is only a few miles from Taunton we're not intending to use the trailer, and will leave it up to individuals how they travel. There may be a group riding there, and there's a big car park for anyone going by car.
We strongly recommend that our members take out their own insurance for theft of their cycle and third party liability as Cycle Somerset membership does NOT provide you with any form of insurance - even when on our club cycle trailer.[more]
